Scottish Wedding Ceilidh Dancing
For hundreds of years, when people wanted to celebrate a big event like a wedding, or just have a bit of fun of an evening, folks would gather together for a traditional Ceilidh dance; in the town hall, in the event venue or even in the streets! The musicians would strike up the tune and the couples would dance together in joyful delight.
So why not have a traditional Ceilidh dance at YOUR wedding? We bring a professional dance caller who teaches you and your guests a simple version of the dance. You walk through the dance all together and then the band begins to play! The beauty of the Ceilidh is that everyone can learn, everyone can dance, and it’s fantastic fun.
Popular Scottish Ceilidh dances:
Gay Gordons, Dashing White Sergeant, Strip the Willow and The Flying Scotsman
Irish Wedding Ceili Dancing
In Ireland it’s Ceili Dancing.
In Scotland it’s Ceilidh Dancing. (pronounced KAY-lee)
All over the world it’s a fantastic way to get you and all your guests on the dance floor for group dancing!
We bring a professional Dance Caller and she teaches you a simple version of the dances. You walk through the steps, holding hands, march into the center of the circle and back out (whooping in the middle), you swing your partner as the Caller encourages you on. It’s different, it’s doable, it’s delightful!
You and your guests will have tremendous fun dancing together, and all ages can participate. Kids and grandparents love it! You don’t need any dance experience whatsoever in order to dance – in fact, you don’t even need to be especially coordinated! We say – if you can walk, you can ceili dance!
*Ceili is a gaelic word meaning gathering or party.
Popular Irish Ceili dances:
The Walls of Limerick, The Seige of Ennis, The Haymaker’s Jig and Waves of Tory
